Uses
Intravenous anesthetic used for induction and maintenance of anesthesia and for procedural or ICU sedation.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to propofol or certain formulation components including egg or soybean products.
Side effects
Hypotension, bradycardia, injection-site pain, respiratory depression, and apnea may occur.
Warnings
Requires administration by trained personnel with continuous monitoring of airway, breathing, and circulation.
How it works
Produces rapid onset anesthesia through central nervous system depressant effects, primarily via GABA-mediated pathways.
