Uses
This triple-combination product provides temporary relief of common cold and flu symptoms including nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, headache, minor body aches and pains, sore throat, and fever. Chlorpheniramine reduces allergic rhinitis symptoms, phenylephrine acts as a nasal decongestant, and paracetamol reduces fever and pain.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients taking MAO inhibitors or within 2 weeks of stopping MAOI therapy. Do not use concurrently with other acetaminophen-containing products. Contraindicated in severe hypertension, hyperthyroidism, or hypersensitivity to any component.
Side effects
May cause drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, urinary retention, and nervousness due to chlorpheniramine and phenylephrine. Severe liver damage may result from paracetamol overdose or concurrent alcohol use. Elevated blood pressure and palpitations are possible with sympathomimetic component.
Warnings
This product contains acetaminophen; severe liver damage may occur with overdose or combined alcohol use. Avoid use in patients with liver disease. Do not use for more than 7 days without medical advice.
How it works
Paracetamol (acetaminophen) reduces fever and pain via central inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation H1 antihistamine reducing rhinorrhea and sneezing. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic agonist causing nasal mucosal vasoconstriction and decongestion.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15–30°C), avoid excessive heat and moisture.
