Uses

This topical combination of menthol and methyl salicylate is used for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints, including backache, arthritis, bruises, strains, and sprains.

Do not use if

For external use only. Do not apply to broken, damaged, or irritated skin, near eyes, or on mucous membranes. Avoid in patients with known salicylate hypersensitivity.

Side effects

Skin irritation, redness, or burning sensation at the application site may occur. Severe skin irritation or allergic reaction may develop in some individuals, particularly those sensitive to salicylates.

Warnings

Allergy alert: may cause allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to aspirin or salicylates. Do not use under occlusive bandages or heating pads. Do not use within 1 hour of bathing. Discontinue if pain persists beyond 7 days or severe skin irritation develops.

How it works

Menthol activates cutaneous cold receptors (TRPM8 channels) to produce a cooling sensation that masks pain perception. Methyl salicylate acts as a rubefacient, causing local vasodilation and warmth that further relieves musculoskeletal pain through counter-irritation.

Store at room temperature, protected from excessive heat and cold.
