Uses
Used for life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias and maintenance of normal sinus rhythm in selected patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in significant bradycardia, long QT syndrome, cardiogenic shock, uncontrolled heart failure, asthma, and severe conduction disorders without a pacemaker.
Side effects
Common adverse effects include fatigue, bradycardia, dizziness, dyspnea, and proarrhythmic effects.
Warnings
Can cause life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias including torsades de pointes. Initiation requires careful ECG monitoring.
How it works
A class III antiarrhythmic with additional non-selective beta-blocking activity that prolongs cardiac repolarization.
