Uses

The fixed combination of latanoprost and timolol is indicated for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who require dual therapy.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in reactive airway disease including asthma and severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, and overt cardiac failure.

Side effects

Ocular side effects include conjunctival hyperemia, increased iris pigmentation, eyelash growth changes, and punctate keratopathy. Systemic effects from timolol include bradycardia, hypotension, and bronchospasm.

Warnings

May be absorbed systemically through the nasolacrimal duct; monitor patients with cardiovascular or pulmonary disease. Gradual iris pigmentation change is irreversible. Avoid use with contact lenses during instillation.

How it works

Latanoprost is a prostaglandin F2α analogue that increases aqueous humor outflow via the uveoscleral pathway, lowering IOP. Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker that reduces aqueous humor production. Their complementary mechanisms provide additive IOP reduction.

Storage

Store unopened bottles refrigerated (2–8°C). Once opened, store at room temperature (below 25°C) and use within 4 weeks.
