Uses
Used for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men, prevention of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, and Paget's disease of bone.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in hypocalcemia, severe renal impairment, and hypersensitivity to zoledronic acid or its components.
Side effects
Common effects include fever, muscle pain, headache, joint pain, nausea, and flu-like symptoms.
Warnings
Monitor calcium levels and renal function. Adequate calcium and vitamin D supplementation is usually required.
How it works
A bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, increasing bone density and reducing fracture risk.
