Uses

Used for Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia in newly diagnosed patients and in patients resistant or intolerant to prior therapy.

Do not use if

Hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, long QT syndrome, or hypersensitivity to the drug.

Side effects

Myelosuppression, rash, nausea, headache, elevated liver enzymes, QT prolongation, and vascular events may occur.

Warnings

May cause QT prolongation and sudden death. Monitor ECG and electrolyte levels regularly.

How it works

A BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks proliferation of Philadelphia chromosome-positive leukemic cells.
