Uses
Pipoxolan is an antispasmodic agent used for the relief of smooth muscle spasms, particularly in the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts. It is indicated for conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, renal colic, and ureteral spasm.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pipoxolan. Use with caution in patients with glaucoma or urinary retention.
Side effects
May cause mild anticholinergic-like effects such as dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness. Allergic reactions are possible.
Warnings
Clinical data are limited; use with caution in elderly patients and those with hepatic or renal impairment. Avoid operating heavy machinery if drowsiness occurs.
How it works
Pipoxolan is a direct-acting antispasmodic that relaxes smooth muscle through a mechanism similar to papaverine, acting directly on smooth muscle cells independent of autonomic nervous system pathways. It has minimal anticholinergic activity.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
