Uses
Used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains, headache, nasal congestion, sinus congestion and pressure, runny nose, and sneezing associated with the common cold or flu.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients allergic to acetaminophen or phenylephrine, and in those taking MAOIs or within 2 weeks of stopping MAOI therapy. Should not be used for more than 10 days for pain or 3 days for fever without medical supervision.
Side effects
May cause nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness. Redness or swelling, new symptoms, or worsening pain or congestion beyond 7 days should prompt medical evaluation. Rare but serious liver damage can occur with overdose.
Warnings
Contains acetaminophen; severe liver damage may occur if the maximum daily dose is exceeded, if combined with other acetaminophen-containing products, or if taken with 3 or more alcoholic drinks daily. Patients with hypertension, heart disease, thyroid disease, or diabetes should consult a physician before use.
How it works
Paracetamol (acetaminophen) reduces fever and relieves pain through central inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic alpha-1 agonist that produces nasal vasoconstriction, thereby relieving nasal and sinus congestion.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
