Uses

The combination of azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate nasal spray is indicated for the relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Do not use if

No absolute contraindications listed. Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component. Use with caution in patients with active or quiescent respiratory tuberculosis, fungal or viral infections.

Side effects

Common side effects include epistaxis, headache, dysgeusia (bitter taste), somnolence, and nasal discomfort. Nasal septal perforation, ulceration, and Candida albicans infection have been reported with corticosteroid nasal sprays.

Warnings

May cause somnolence; avoid driving or operating machinery. Avoid concurrent use of alcohol or other CNS depressants. Prolonged use may be associated with nasal septal perforation, cataracts, glaucoma, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression.

How it works

Azelastine is an H1-receptor antagonist that inhibits histamine-mediated allergic responses. Fluticasone propionate is a synthetic corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation by inhibiting multiple inflammatory mediators. Their combination provides additive and complementary antiallergic effects.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–30°C) with the bottle upright. Keep away from direct sunlight. Discard after 120 days of first use.
