Uses

A topical ophthalmic beta-blocker indicated for lowering intraocular pressure in patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma, severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, second- or third-degree AV block, overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, or hypersensitivity to any component.

Side effects

Most common ocular effects include transient burning and stinging upon instillation, and blepharoconjunctivitis. Systemic absorption may lead to decreased heart rate, reduced blood pressure, and bronchospasm.

Warnings

Topical beta-blockers can be absorbed systemically and cause the same adverse reactions as systemic beta-blockers, including severe respiratory and cardiovascular effects. Use with caution in patients with diabetes, as it may mask signs of hypoglycemia.

How it works

Levobunolol is a noncardioselective beta-adrenoceptor blocker that reduces aqueous humor production in the ciliary body, thereby lowering intraocular pressure. It is the active levo-isomer, more than 60 times more potent than its dextro counterpart.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 15–25°C. Keep the bottle tightly closed and protect from light.
