Uses
Psyllium husk is a soluble dietary fiber used as a bulk-forming laxative to relieve constipation and support bowel regularity. It is also used as an adjunct in weight management programs to promote satiety.
Do not use if
Intestinal obstruction or fecal impaction. Difficulty swallowing or esophageal narrowing. Hypersensitivity to psyllium.
Side effects
Abdominal bloating, flatulence, and cramping may occur, especially at initiation. Esophageal or intestinal obstruction can occur if taken without adequate fluid.
Warnings
Always take with a full glass of water (at least 240 mL) to prevent choking or obstruction. Not recommended as a sole weight-loss intervention.
How it works
Psyllium husk absorbs water in the intestinal lumen, forming a viscous gel that increases stool bulk and softness, facilitating defecation. The gel also slows gastric emptying, contributing to prolonged satiety. Sucralose provides sweetness without caloric contribution.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C in a tightly closed container. Protect from moisture.
