Uses
Used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with serious hypersensitivity to alogliptin and severe renal impairment requiring restrictions.
Side effects
May cause headache, upper respiratory infections, pancreatitis, heart failure, and hypersensitivity reactions.
Warnings
Monitor for pancreatitis, heart failure, liver dysfunction, and severe allergic reactions.
How it works
Alogliptin inhibits DPP-4, increasing incretin hormone activity and glucose-dependent insulin secretion.
