Uses

This triple combination is used to temporarily relieve symptoms of the common cold and upper respiratory allergies, including runny nose, nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, headache, and minor aches and pains.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in children under 12 years, patients taking MAOIs or within 2 weeks of stopping them, those with severe hypertension, coronary artery disease, or hypersensitivity to NSAIDs or aspirin, and in patients who have undergone recent cardiac surgery.

Side effects

May cause drowsiness, dry mouth, increased blood pressure, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, and stomach upset. Serious risks include gastrointestinal bleeding from ibuprofen, severe allergic reactions, and cardiovascular events with prolonged use.

Warnings

Ibuprofen may cause severe allergic reactions, especially in aspirin-sensitive patients, and increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Pseudoephedrine can raise blood pressure and should be used with caution in hypertensive patients. Do not exceed recommended dosage or duration of use.

How it works

Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation H1-antihistamine that blocks histamine-mediated allergic symptoms. Ibuprofen is an NSAID that inhibits COX enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis to relieve pain and fever. Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic that causes nasal vasoconstriction to relieve congestion.
