Uses

Used for treatment of various seizure disorders including partial and absence seizures.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in significant liver disease, POLG-related mitochondrial disorders, and certain young children at high risk of mitochondrial disease.

May cause nausea, tremor, weight gain, drowsiness, liver toxicity, pancreatitis, and blood abnormalities.

Can cause life-threatening hepatotoxicity, pancreatitis, and serious fetal harm during pregnancy.

Valproic acid increases brain GABA activity and helps stabilize abnormal neuronal firing.

Store at room temperature and protect from excessive heat.
