Uses
Flaminal Forte is an alginate-based enzyme alginogel used for the management of moderate to heavily exuding wounds including chronic wounds, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, infected wounds, and burns. The enzymatic system provides continuous antimicrobial action through generation of hypothiocyanite.
Do not use if
Hypersensitivity to any component or iodine. Contraindicated in thyroid disorders (due to iodide). Avoid use in neonates and during pregnancy and lactation due to iodine content. Not for use in dry wounds.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated at wound site. Transient mild stinging on application may occur. Hypersensitivity reactions are rare. Monitor for systemic iodine absorption in large wound areas or prolonged use.
Warnings
Monitor thyroid function with prolonged or large-area application due to iodine content. Do not use concurrently with other iodine-containing wound products. Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
How it works
The lactoperoxidase enzyme system uses glucose oxidase to generate hydrogen peroxide from glucose, which then drives lactoperoxidase to oxidize iodide to produce hypothiocyanite (OSCN-), a potent antimicrobial agent. Alginate provides moist wound environment and exudate absorption. Macrogol aids gel consistency and drug delivery.
Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Use within specified time after opening.
