Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy due to possible cross-reactivity.

Warnings

Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dose adjustment is required. Risk of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea during or after therapy. Monitor for signs of CNS toxicity, especially in patients with renal failure.

How it works

Cefpirome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. It has broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and is stable to many beta-lactamases.

Storage

Store the dry powder below 25°C, protected from light. Reconstituted solutions should be used immediately or stored in a refrigerator for a limited period per product labeling.
