Uses
Used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria and in certain topical formulations for localized bacterial infections.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
Side effects
May cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, photosensitivity, oral candidiasis, and esophageal irritation.
Warnings
May cause permanent tooth discoloration if used during tooth development in pregnancy or young children.
How it works
Tetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.
