Uses

Traditionally used in some formulations for symptomatic management of gout-related complaints and disorders associated with uric acid accumulation. The exact role of piperazine in such combinations is not well established.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component. Use caution in severe renal or hepatic impairment, glaucoma, or significant gastrointestinal disease.

Side effects

May cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, or other adverse effects related to colchicine and atropine.

Warnings

Use only under appropriate medical supervision because colchicine has a narrow therapeutic index. Monitor for gastrointestinal and anticholinergic adverse effects.

How it works

Colchicine reduces inflammatory responses associated with gout. Atropine provides anticholinergic effects, while piperazine has historically been included in some formulations although its contribution to gout management is unclear.
