Uses
Indicated for the symptomatic relief of non-productive (dry) cough in adults and children. It is used in acute and chronic respiratory conditions where cough suppression is warranted.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levodropropizine. Should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. Reported side effects include nausea, epigastric discomfort, dizziness, and somnolence. Allergic skin reactions have been reported rarely.
Warnings
Not recommended for productive cough where expectoration is important. Use with caution in patients with hepatic disease. Not recommended as a substitute for treatment of the underlying respiratory condition.
How it works
Levodropropizine is a peripherally acting antitussive agent. Unlike opioid antitussives, it acts primarily on peripheral sensory nerve fibers in the respiratory tract rather than on the central nervous system, thereby reducing the cough reflex with minimal sedation.
Storage
Store at room temperature below 25°C, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
