Uses

Iopromide is a non-ionic iodinated radiographic contrast agent indicated for intra-arterial procedures including cerebral, peripheral, coronary arteriography, and cardiac imaging, as well as intravenous procedures including excretory urography and contrast-enhanced CT in adults and paediatric patients aged 2 years and older.

Do not use if

No absolute contraindications listed. Not intended for intrathecal use. Exercise caution in patients with renal impairment, history of contrast allergy, severe cardiac disease, and in patients with thyroid disorders.

Side effects

Adverse reactions include hypersensitivity reactions (mild to anaphylaxis), acute kidney injury, cardiovascular adverse reactions, and thromboembolic events. Intrathecal administration may cause severe neurological injury.

Warnings

Not for intrathecal use; inadvertent intrathecal administration may cause death, convulsions, cerebral haemorrhage, coma, paralysis, and renal failure. Adequate hydration before and after use helps prevent contrast-induced nephropathy. Emergency resuscitation facilities should be available.

How it works

Iopromide is a low-osmolality, non-ionic, iodinated contrast medium. Following intravascular injection, it opacifies blood vessels through X-ray attenuation by its three iodine atoms per molecule, allowing radiographic and CT visualisation of vascular structures and organs.

Storage

Store at room temperature, protected from light. Do not freeze. Use immediately once opened; discard unused portion.
