Uses
This combination syrup provides symptomatic relief of cough associated with the common cold, bronchitis, and upper respiratory tract infections. It combines an expectorant (guaifenesin), a sedating antihistamine-antitussive (oxomemazine), and an analgesic-antipyretic (paracetamol).
Do not use if
Contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment, known hypersensitivity to any component, concomitant use of MAOIs, and in infants and young children (oxomemazine is not indicated in young children).
Side effects
Common side effects include drowsiness (oxomemazine), nausea, dizziness, and dry mouth. Paracetamol hepatotoxicity may occur with overdose. Sodium benzoate may cause hypersensitivity reactions in susceptible individuals.
Warnings
Avoid concurrent use with other acetaminophen-containing products. Do not exceed recommended doses. Drowsiness may impair driving ability. Use with caution in elderly patients.
How it works
Guaifenesin increases respiratory tract fluid secretion, reducing mucus viscosity and facilitating expectoration. Oxomemazine is a phenothiazine derivative with antihistaminic and antitussive properties. Paracetamol inhibits central prostaglandin synthesis for analgesic and antipyretic effects. Sodium benzoate is a preservative.
Storage
Store at room temperature below 25°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
