Uses
Indicated for the treatment of hypertension in patients not adequately controlled on either agent alone. This fixed-dose combination is not intended for initial antihypertensive therapy.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in anuria, hypersensitivity to fosinopril, any ACE inhibitor, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide-derived drugs. Also contraindicated in pregnancy and in patients with a history of angioedema related to ACE inhibitor therapy.
Side effects
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, cough, fatigue, and electrolyte disturbances such as hypokalemia. Less frequently: hypotension, nausea, and impaired renal function.
Warnings
Discontinue immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy as drugs acting on the renin-angiotensin system can cause fetal injury or death. Monitor renal function and serum potassium regularly. Risk of angioedema, particularly in patients of African descent. Risk of neutropenia in patients with renal impairment or collagen-vascular disease.
How it works
Fosinopril is an ACE inhibitor that reduces angiotensin II formation, lowering vascular resistance and aldosterone secretion. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes renal sodium and water excretion. Together they produce additive antihypertensive effects.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
