Uses

Oxeladin is a centrally acting non-opioid antitussive used for the symptomatic relief of dry, non-productive cough. It suppresses the cough reflex through central nervous system action without significant respiratory depression at therapeutic doses.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to oxeladin. Use with caution in patients with productive cough, as suppressing the cough reflex in this context may impair mucociliary clearance. Avoid in patients with respiratory depression.

Side effects

May cause drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Less commonly, dry mouth and mild sedation may occur.

Warnings

Avoid operating heavy machinery or driving until the effect on alertness is known. Use with caution in elderly patients and in those with underlying respiratory conditions. Not recommended in children under the specified age for the formulation.

How it works

Oxeladin acts centrally to suppress the cough center in the medulla oblongata. It does not possess opioid receptor affinity and does not cause analgesic or dependence effects. It also has a local anesthetic-like action on the airways.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–25°C), away from direct sunlight and moisture.
