Uses

Used for treatment of depression and is also used in certain chronic pain and neurologic conditions.

Do not use if

Contraindicated with MAOI therapy and in patients with hypersensitivity to amitriptyline.

May cause drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, blurred vision, and weight gain.

Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially in younger patients and during treatment initiation.

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that inhibits serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake.

Store at 20–25°C in a light-resistant container.
