Uses
Cloperastine is indicated for the symptomatic relief of non-productive (dry) cough. It is used in acute and chronic conditions where suppression of irritating cough is warranted.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cloperastine. Should be used with caution in productive cough, as suppression may impair airway clearance.
Side effects
Common side effects include mild sedation, dry mouth, dizziness, and gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Warnings
Avoid use in patients with respiratory depression or conditions requiring intact cough reflex. Use with caution in elderly patients and those operating machinery due to sedative effects.
How it works
Cloperastine is a centrally acting antitussive that suppresses the cough reflex at the level of the cough center in the medulla. It also has mild antihistaminic and bronchospasmolytic properties.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
